Routing System Specialist – Transportation
1.0 FTE – 11 month position
Grade 14 - Hourly Pay Range: $22.45 - $29.01

Nature of Work:
This position coordinates and evaluates all school bus routes throughout the school district to assure service levels are maintained in a safe, efficient manner. In addition, the position maintains records concerning routing, accumulated mileage, student data, load counts, and other data necessary to assure proper operations and produce required reports. Also assists in development and maintenance of other department databases such as employee data and vehicle data. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Transportation and travel between terminals will be required.

Responsibilities:
- Annually establishes district wide school bus routes utilizing computerized routing program assuring adaptation of existing routes to changing district demographics.
- Assists terminal dispatchers in application of routes, using dispatcher input to assure best service to students.
- Assures all routes adhere to Department of Education requirements and School Board Policy.
- Monitors routes for equity of service to students throughout the District.
- Maintains computerized routing programs including updating maps, performing student data downloads, and running routine maintenance programs.
- Produces printed maps as required.
- Prints route lists and route descriptions as needed.
- Serves as the department liaison to the Information Technology Department.
- Develops and updates database applications for internal department use to include (but not limited to) employee data and vehicle data.
- Assists in preparation of employee time sheets and payroll reports.
- Instructs department personnel on computer and application software usage.
- Provides data as needed for development of department reports.
- Makes recommendations as to department computer needs, computer specifications, software needs, and computer oriented purchases for department use.
- Makes recommendations regarding coordination of dispatch operations and personnel.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Required: 

- High School diploma or equivalent. College degree in a computer discipline highly desirable.
- Communicate (read, write and speak) in English, must pass English component of interview process
- Complete and submitted BVSD online application
- Currently hold a valid Colorado Driver’s License
- Submit a current Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and be insurable and maintain insurability per Colorado School Districts Self Insurance Pool (CSDSIP) standards
- Possess or obtain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License with P2S endorsements within the first 60 days of hire
Obtain and maintain a Department of Transportation Medical Examiner’s Certificate
- At least 21 years of age
- Maintain all required certifications throughout employment

Preferred:
- Thorough knowledge of the Boulder Valley School District geography and boundaries.
- Working knowledge of Department of Education and School District rules, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to maintain thorough, accurate records.
- Ability to work effectively in stressful situations.
- Ability to develop mathematical formulas for data manipulation.
- Thorough knowledge of computerized routing programs.
- Working knowledge of database development and programming.
- Working knowledge of computer LAN applications.
- Ability to effectively work with the public to answer questions regarding development of routes and placement of bus stops.
- High level of aptitude for software applications usage and development.
- Verifiable experience in computer hardware and software troubleshooting and repair.
- Experience in computerized routing, logistics, or school transportation administration highly desirable.
